To say that Amanda has had a hard life would be an understatement. As a young girl, she grew up in an abusive household. Both her mother and her father were alcoholics, and her father used to beat her. He also used to punish her by locking her under the basement stairs - this traumatized her, as she was deathly afraid of the dark, and would be left alone for hours. She eventually moved out of the house and went from place to place, crashing at friends homes when she could, and sometimes living on the street.

However, she finished high school and was able to graduate from a local community college. She took a job as an orderly at Angel of Mercy Hospital, where she worked for a few years. Her life was thrown into chaos once more when she was framed for drug possession by police officer Eric Matthews. She spent five years in jail serving out her sentence, during which she became addicted to heroin. Once free, she had nowhere to go, having lost everything while in jail. She managed to find a job working in a grocery store, but her life was a mess, and she was heavily addicted to drugs.

One day she was given a second chance; kidnapped by the mass murderer known as Jigsaw, Amanda was forced to complete a gruesome task in order to keep on living. She was the first and only victim to survive Jigsaw's deadly games, and immediately began to idolize him. When questioned by detectives, she claimed that he "helped" her. She quit drugs and, after being sought out by Jigsaw himself, became his protege. Determined to carry out his work after his death, Amanda helped him with numerous deadly games, the first of which she used to extract her revenge on Eric Matthews. However, Jigsaw's health began to deteriorate rapidly, and Amanda started to abuse the mantle of Jigsaw. She created un-winnable games, unwilling to give the victims a chance to survive.

She kidnapped Dr. Lynn Denlon for Jigsaw's final game. A mutual hatred between the two women was instantaneous and several times they came to blows. Amanda, fearing that John cared more for Lynn than her, held Lynn up at gunpoint. At this point, Jigsaw confronted Amanda about her un-winnable games - she broke down and stated that she believed no one changed from them, using Eric (who escaped his trap and almost killed her) as her prime example. She eventually snapped and shot Lynn, and was subsequently shot by Lynn's husband, Jeff.

Amanda's current situation is unknown as of yet, as it is not yet clear whether she truly "died" when shot in the neck by Jeff.
